Winchester College seeks a detail-oriented and organized Examination Administrator to join the Examinations Office. The primary purpose of this role is to provide essential administrative and operational support to the Examinations Officer, ensuring the smooth, secure, and compliant delivery of all examinations in accordance with JCQ and awarding body regulations. This position requires a professional who can maintain a calm, controlled environment for candidates while managing strict deadlines and rigorous compliance standards.

The Role

Reporting to the Examinations Officer, the postholder liaises with teaching staff, invigilators, and candidates to facilitate all stages of the examination process.

Your key responsibilities include:

Exam Preparation & Setup

  • Regulatory Compliance: Assist in setting up exam rooms to meet JCQ and awarding body standards.
  • Logistics: Organize and maintain office resources and equipment.
  • Verification: Verify candidate lists, registers, seating plans, and all required documentation prior to start times.
  • Coordination: Support the coordination of both internal and external invigilators.

During & Post-Exam Operations

  • Candidate Management: Welcome and direct candidates to correct rooms and supervise them to maintain a calm environment.
  • Operational Flow: Assist in ensuring exams start and finish precisely on time, distributing and collecting papers securely.
  • Access Arrangements: Provide support for students with access arrangements (e.g., readers, scribes, or rest breaks) if trained.
  • Secure Handling: Assist with the secure collection, packing, and dispatch of exam scripts, ensuring every material is accounted for.
  • Resetting: Ensure rooms are promptly reset for subsequent examination sessions.


About You

We are seeking a highly accurate and punctual individual who can work effectively under pressure and build positive relationships with both staff and students.

Desirable Experience

  • Education Sector: Previous experience working in an educational setting.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with JCQ and awarding body regulations.
  • Access Arrangements: Experience supporting students with specific exam needs.
  • Systems: Familiarity with iSAMS or similar exam management systems.


What We Offer

  • Start Date: January 2026 (beginning of the next academic term).
  • Hours of Work: This is a part-time, term-time role:
  • Non-Exam Periods: 18 hours per week (pattern to be agreed).
  • Exam Periods: Full-time availability is required (typically 08:00 until the last exam concludes, approx. 18:30). Occasional Saturday mornings may be required.
  • Salary: The hourly rate is £13.75 per hour (excluding holiday pay).
