Teaching Assistant
To provide dedicated learning and care support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Purpose of the Role
To provide dedicated learning and care support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This includes delivering targeted 1:1 intervention, supporting the pupils in the Learning Support Area, and collaborating with teaching staff to plan and implement structured activities outside of the classroom. The role also involves delivering small-group interventions to meet individual learning and development goals.
Responsibilities
- Develop positive, supportive relationships with pupils to encourage progress, build self-esteem, and foster independence.
- Communicate clearly and sensitively, adapting your approach to meet individual pupil needs and learning styles.
- Provide support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Promptly identify and escalate any safeguarding or welfare concerns in line with the school’s safeguarding procedures.
- Promote and maintain high standards of behaviour, addressing incidents in accordance with the school's behaviour policy.
- Contribute to the planning, implementation, and review of individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies tailored to pupils’ needs.
- Deliver one-to-one and small group support for pupils with additional needs, including those with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Use a range of teaching and learning strategies to help pupils engage in learning and develop greater independence within group and class settings.
- Adapt and modify materials and resources to ensure full access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
- Implement planned inclusion programmes and targeted interventions as directed by SENCO.
- Deliver specific intervention and support strategies tailored to individual pupils, under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO.
- Provide regular feedback to pupils on their progress, achievement, and areas for development.
- Support the effective use of ICT to enhance learning and engagement across subjects.
