We are seeking to appoint an excellent DT Technician to work with pupils aged 8-13. To support the work of the DT department in the supervising of workshop tasks being carried out by pupils which involve tools and machines primarily, as per our safe schemes of work.

Role Description

Key Responsibilities

Responsible to: Head of Design Technology

Salary: Point 5 on St Peter’s Support Staff Salary Scale - £26,285

Hours of work: Term Time hours: Monday–Friday, 8.00am–4.30pm (37.5 hours per week)

Holiday hours: Monday–Friday, 9.00am–4.00pm (30 hours per week)

This is a term time role only plus five weeks during the holidays (to include the week immediately before the start of the Christmas Term). The other additional weeks outside of term time will be worked as required by the School.

Overall Purpose of the Post:

To support the work of the DT department in the supervising of workshop tasks being carried out by pupils which involve tools and machines primarily, as per our safe schemes of work. To provide help in the setting up of the classroom/workshop for activities and material requests/processing orders.

Key Roles

Liaise with the IT department to ensure that IT issues are resolved promptly.

Liaise with Estates regarding the maintenance of the workshop, which includes electrical repairs, plumbing, and machinery check-ups, among other matters.

Liaise with Housekeeping for the supply of domestic consumables and the emptying of bins.

Daily

General tidying around machines to ensure all in good order for the following day. Help with setting up and tidying the classroom and workshop before and after lessons.

General tidying around machines, workbenches, and classrooms to ensure they are left in good order for the following day.

Ensure the classroom is set up for teaching on Saturdays.

Weekly

1. Assist the DT teaching staff with safety checks as per our maintenance programme (CLEAPSS G254) – on workshop machines, including for eg. the emptying of sanding machine trays and cleaning of band-saw dust etc, as required. Ensure repairs are carried out/organised/or machines taken out of use promptly.

Monthly/mid term

Assist with the top up of project materials as required.

Assistance in display of pupils’ work (including photo displays).

Termly

Ensure that repairs and servicing of machinery and equipment are carried out, organised, or that machines are taken out of use promptly.

Annually

Assist with stock take in preparation for summer orders – and subsequent unpacking, checking of deliveries.

Assist with thorough clear down ready for summer cleaning.

Assist Head of DT and teaching staff with preparation of materials for major projects.

Liaise with the Head of DT and DT teaching staff, regarding annual safety checking and servicing of machinery (currently under contract with Technology Supplies), and PAT testing, and ensuring recommendations have been carried out.
