Department: Senior School

Responsible to: Deputy Head Co-Curricular (in charge of cover)

Hours: Monday to Friday 08:15-16:00, Saturday 08:15-12:40

Salary: £25,097 p.a. (Point 8 on the Support Pay Scale prorated)

It may be possible for 2 candidates to fill this role on part-time/job share basis

Overall purpose of the post:

To supervise classes and promote the ethos of learning during the absence of subject teachers and provide support to subject teams. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on classroom experience in a secondary school setting.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supervising whole classes during teacher absences, delivering work set by the regular class teacher
  • Maintaining a focused and supportive atmosphere to help students stay on task
  • Responding to any immediate issues in line with school policies and safeguarding procedures
  • Collecting completed assignments and returning materials to the appropriate teacher
  • Acting as a Teaching Assistant in periods when cover is not needed, supporting pupils across the curriculum
  • Report to the Co-Curricular Deputy at the beginning of each day to receive direction on classes requiring cover.
  • Give feedback on lessons to the teacher being covered so they know where the class got to.
  • Adjusting lessons/work plans as needed at the time to ensure the class can make suitable progress
  • Help with day educational visits and outings within the working day, where cover for these is needed.
  • To aid lunchtime supervision of pupils around the school site.
  • To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably expected
