The role is either full-time, or with an overall timetable in the region of 0.8 FTE. The purpose of the Second in Mathematics position is to provide a supporting role within the Department and assist the Head of Mathematics in the management of the Mathematics Department.

All teaching staff are expected to contribute to the pastoral and enrichment programmes of the School. In addition to teaching, the post holder will also have pastoral responsibilities within their allocated year group.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work with the Head of Department in leading and managing the department. This may include:
  • Collaborating with the Head of Department and other members of the department on the planning, implementation and review of the curriculum, taking the lead on mutually agreed initiatives.
  • Assisting the Head of Department with lesson observations and professional review of members of the department.
  • Deputising for the Head of Department in her absence.
  • Take responsibility for one of the three Key Stage groups within the department: currently Key Stage 4.
  • Share in the organisation of study clinics and enrichment activities such as trips and other events, including the UKMT maths challenges.
  • To be the Departmental SEN representative, liaising with teachers and the Learning Support department and facilitating discussion within the department.
  • Assist the Head of Department with the recruitment, appointment, and induction of new staff.
