DIRECTOR OF HOCKEY

Full Time, Term Time, Fixed Term post until June 2028

WHAT WE OFFER

Based in the heart of Glasgow’s City Centre with easy access to transport links, the College offers an inclusive culture, based on integrity, respect and personal excellence in making a difference in the lives of its pupils, parents and staff alike.

Sport is at the heart of our curricula and co-curricula offer and it is something which we do very well indeed. We have for many years been amongst the best Hockey schools in the West of Scotland and one of the top schools for the Sport in the country. At the heart of our site lies our impressive £8 million sports complex. Within this facility is a state-of-the-art fitness suite used for strength and conditioning as well as ample areas for indoor training.

Our pitches are off site and we transport our pupils by bus to these locations.  At Millerston, a short drive from the main College site, lie our playing fields.  In addition, we utilise the 2 water based astro-turf pitches at the National Hockey Centre at Glasgow Green for our Hockey programme.

St Aloysius’ College is proudly Jesuit and Catholic, and equally proud of the diversity of its community.  We warmly welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds who share our commitment to educational excellence, and the formation of young people in the service of others.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an exciting role, to lead and shape the development of hockey within a school with a growing reputation for its achievements in recent years.  St Aloysius’ College won the Scottish Schools Challenge Cup at 1st XI and U15 level in 2025, won the West of Scotland indoor Hockey Championships and reached the final of the Scottish Schools Plate in 2026.  In recent years we have a number of pupils who are part of district squads, with many going on to the national brave and emerging pathways.   Our hockey programme continues to grow in profile and ambition, supported by excellent facilities, strong participation across all year groups and a commitment to developing both performance and enjoyment in the sport.  Hockey is in a strong position at the school and is a significant part of the College’s sporting success story.

We seek a colleague for the immensely fulfilling and challenging role of continuing to build on these achievements and take hockey forward as an inclusive and crucial part of the College sporting life. You will shape the new hockey development plan by having the opportunity to advise on how we can offer the very best provision possible, including the provision of a hockey Summer camp. The College is committed to ensuring this is a very well supported and forward-thinking role.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

The Director of Hockey enjoys real autonomy to build and develop the existing strengths and achievements of hockey at the College and ensure the success and engagement with the sport at all levels. You will shape a team of coaches and other staff who have a passion and belief in the values and developmental benefits of the sport.

 WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

You will have a coaching level 3 (UKCC) or equivalent, with experience of coaching hockey to children aged 8 - 18 years, and will have the ability to motivate and inspire others to deliver.  Strategic planning and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to communicate at all levels with internal and external stakeholders.

APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS

The College welcomes experienced coaches, and teachers who have the required coaching experience, to apply for this role.

Applications should be received not later that 9 am on 19 May 2026.   Applications received after this date will not be considered.  CV’s are not accepted.

We reserve the right to interview and appoint prior to the closing date.

Interviews will take place from 26 May 2026.

You should nominate two referees to support your application (please note that referees will be asked to assess you against the person specification attached rather than being generic in nature).

St Aloysius’ College places safeguarding of its pupils as its highest priority.  As such, references will be taken up before appointment and the successful applicant will be subject to appropriate qualification checks and advanced PVG clearance.  Appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment questions will form part of the selection process.
