We are seeking to appoint a Transport Co-ordinator and Porter to join our established Estates team. This is a dual role combining portering, security and caretaking responsibilities with the management of the School’s minibus fleet. The successful candidate will play an important part in maintaining the high standards of maintenance, security, presentation and operational efficiency expected across the School.

The Transport Co-ordinator responsibilities include managing the servicing, repairs and safety checks for the School’s vehicle fleet, ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with relevant regulations, arranging vehicle refuelling, maintaining accurate records and risk assessments and overseeing driver training and assessments.

The Porter responsibilities include locking and unlocking premises, handling deliveries, preparing rooms for events, carrying out minor maintenance tasks, operating alarm systems, monitoring CCTV and completing routine inspections.

The ideal candidate will have relevant caretaking and/or fleet management experience, a D1 driver qualification with a clean licence and preferably have health and safety and manual handling training. Strong organisational, communication and IT skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Vehicle management or driver assessor training would be an advantage. Flexibility is required for occasional working outside of normal School hours.

St Albans School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must therefore be willing to undergo child protection screening and safer recruitment checks appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. All positions within the School are exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. St Albans School is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and the creation of an inclusive environment for all employees. Employment selections are made according to suitability for the post, irrespective of background or protected characteristic.
