As a visiting singing teacher, you will teach individual vocal lessons, lead and nurture school choirs, and guide students in developing their singing technique. You will be responsible for creating a fun and inspiring environment where students can explore their vocal potential, improve their skills, and experience the joy of choral music.

Hereford Cathedral School is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Self-Employed Visiting Singing Teacher to lead our choir program and offer individual vocal lessons to students of all ages and abilities. Music at Hereford Cathedral School Recognised by The Week as “great for music” in 2023, Hereford Cathedral School is a thriving and dynamic music community that welcomes both new and seasoned performers. The Department boasts a diverse range of instrumental ensembles, including our Symphony Orchestra, Jass Band and Concert Band, as well as a busy concert programme in venues throughout the county.
Our groundbreaking Music Makers programme provides additional workshop, masterclass and performance opportunities featuring musicians of international repute, including Sir John Rutter, Bob Chilcott, Apollo5 and the Carducci Quartet.
Our internationally renowned choirs are the flagship of our music programme, providing an exceptional environment for musical growth.
Our Cantabile Girls’ Choir is a prime example of excellence, winning three gold medals at the Canta Al Mar Choral Festival in Spain last year, and earning the prestigious title of ‘Children’s Choir of the World’ at the 2018 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. Our passion for singing is nurtured and encouraged from a young age with our Hereford Cathedral Junior School Choir winning the ‘Traditional’ category at the Barnardo’s National Choir Competition 2025 Recently, our Chapel Choir had the honour of singing evensong at the magnificent St Paul’s Cathedral, a testament to the high level of musical achievement at Hereford Cathedral School.
About the role
As a visiting singing teacher, you will teach individual vocal lessons, lead and nurture school choirs, and guide students in developing their singing technique. You will be responsible for creating a fun and inspiring environment where students can explore their vocal potential, improve their skills, and experience the joy of choral music. For the right candidate, there may be the opportunity to succeed Mrs Jo Williamson as Director of our internationally renowned Cantabile Girls Choir in September 2026
