Teacher of Design, Computing and Robotics
We are currently seeking to fill the position of Teacher of Design, Computing and Robotics.
An outstanding teacher of Design, Computing & Robotics is required for September 2025. The School has a long-standing record of high academic achievement (95% of A-level entries gained A* to B grades in 2024). There is also much happening in terms of co-curricular activities, and all staff are expected to be fully involved in School life.
CLS is excited to be recruiting for this innovative and forward looking bespoke CLS course. The course, first introduced in September 2021, has been developed in collaboration with leading industry experts, and aims to build pupils understanding in the design cycle from inception to delivery, supported as appropriate by a range of computational, robotics and traditional approaches. It is designed to be project- and team-based, and relevant to the diverse backgrounds of the Schools pupil body. We have developed a Junior DCR Course for our First Form (Y7) and there has been a consistently high uptake for the course when it is an option in Third Form (Y9), and when it is then offered as an HPQ Course in Fourth & Fifth Form (Y10 and Y11). The option of an EPQ Artefact is there for the Junior Sixth pupils, and this has ensured strong applications to high tariff universities whether their higher-education aspirations lie in the fields of Art and Design, or in Engineering, Computer Science, Architecture or Mathematics. The ability to be involved in the teaching of IT&C (Y7 or Y8) and/or AI (we have a bespoke Y8 course) is desirable but not essential.
We recognise that our staff body does not reflect the ethnic, cultural and social diversity of the broader CLS community. We warmly welcome applications from anyone with the relevant skills and ability, and particularly from those who may not have previously thought of applying to a school such as ours. We use an anonymised application process. All appointments will be made on merit, following a fair and transparent process.
CLS was named by the Sunday Times as London Independent Secondary School of the Year 2020, and occupies fine, modern buildings near St. Pauls Cathedral overlooking the Thames, opposite the Tate Modern. There are impressive off-site sports facilities in south east London.
CLS Teaching Pay Scale £38,190 - £62,640 pro rata (plus two progressions points to £64,680 to £66,780 2024 - 2025). The post would be suitable for an ECT (we provide statutory induction) or a colleague with more experience.
City of London School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Further information about the School and a copy of the most recent ISI Inspection report are available on our website, alongside further information about the broader benefits of working at CLS.
