The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) at Bury Grammar School is one of the oldest and largest contingents in the country. With a vibrant and distinguished history, the Contingent has been an integral part of school life for generations and continues to play an important role today.

With its strong links to the town of Bury, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and the RAF, it provides cadets with enriching and adventurous opportunities that build confidence, develop teamwork and instil a strong sense of responsibility, self-reliance and resourcefulness.

Our Contingent draws upon the skills and dedication of the School’s teachers and other committed adult volunteers and the enthusiasm of the cadets themselves to create an activity that is like no other in the School.

The Role:

We are seeking a School Staff Instructor (SSI) to work closely with the Contingent Commander in delivering our outstanding CCF programme. This is a varied and rewarding role for someone with military or cadet experience who is passionate about supporting young people and maintaining high standards of organisation and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Administration & Compliance: Maintain accurate records on Cadet MIS, ensure audits and returns are completed, and monitor CFAV checks and training.

Logistics & Equipment Management: Oversee stores, clothing accounts, weapons and ammunition checks, and ensure compliance with MOD regulations.

Finance & Planning: Assist with managing contingent funds, booking accommodation, travel, and training facilities.

Training & Activities: Support parade days, summer camps, term time weekend days, external activities, and training events, including preparation of equipment and documentation.

Security & Communication: Ensure security of weapons and equipment, act as point of contact for security matters, and keep all members updated on opportunities and policies.

What We’re Looking For:

Relevant military, reserve, or cadet forces experience.

A combination of or a willingness to obtain qualifications such as:

SAA Instructor, Range Management, Drill Instructor, First Aid Training.

Proficient in IT systems, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Management Information Systems.

Strong administrative skills with the ability to manage accounts, transport and coordinate equipment allocation

Excellent Oral and Written Communication skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Commitment to safeguarding and the ethos of an independent school.
